A step back in time

The door swings open to a magical place - behind the red curtain food aroma, one glances at the amply filled tapas bar. Fish soaked in deep green olive oil,  dates wrapped in bacon, artichokes, meatballs - the palate ready for what’s to come. Weaving through wooden chairs, marble tables, nodding to neighbors, greeting friends. What kind of art adorns the walls today? Settling on the corner bench looking outside through the gallery window. Who peeks in, who enters?
Deciding between Spaghetti topped with porcini mushroom pesto, eastern lentil soup and tapas platter. The patron at the neighboring table nibbles on nuts and steals berries off his salad. One vino verde please! The espresso crowns the delectabilities made in the charmed kitchen.
The newest city scoop chatter, discreet music in the background. Low bar lamps illuminate the faces of waiting, conversing, contemplating, reading guests. Is there still time for a moist piece of chocolate cake? A glass of Condado? Looking forward to summer nights where cool cellar beer and fruity Veltliner taste deliciously in the enchanted starlit, paper lantern draped courtyard.
